Top Ten Things I Can Do Without in 2011 (in no order)
1. Horrible Drivers
Hard to pick between people texting or the ones who automatically drive slow when talking on cell phones. Another category is the ones who prefer the left lanes for the slow commute. I am guilty of driving 5-10 over posted speed because I can. I also believe that slow drivers cause accidents due to others having to maneuver around them. Perhaps police should cite the slow ones too for unsafe driving.
2. Store Discount Scams
Never understood why stores do not mark items down to lowest price that they will still make required profit margin. Do not need to see “We will match prices” or additional discount for opening a charge account. I expect to get the best price if I am there. What are they doing for current charge account holders? What happened to servicing your loyal customers rather than running them off to other stores? Another thing I hate is the Kohl’s “Cash Back” or “Mail in Rebate”. Please give me the money of discount now so I can buy more merchandise not wait a week or send something off.
3. Smug-Ass Bike Culture
Our community implemented calming lanes along our streets for bike and pedestrian traffic which is great for our safety. The down side of our small community the local bike clubs to use the streets for their imaginary “Tour de France” track. Hello, you are considered a vehicle and must obey the stop signs as such.
4. Reality Shows
Hate them and the contestants/washed up actors who participate. Think they get too much attention.
5. Hollywood type news
From the Lohan’s, Kardashian’s, Gosselin’s, divorces and scandals I have heard and seen enough. I realize it sells so I will live to ignore it.
6. The Over Use of the Term “Passive-Aggressiveness”
I write this fully aware of the fact that it's a bit of the pot calling the kettle black. Passive-aggressiveness is as much a part of my innate self as my tolerance of crowds and long lines. But there is something pretty satisfying about simply telling someone to f%^k off when they deserve it instead of icily turning the other cheek and stewing. In fact, feel free to use the comments section of this post for your maiden voyage into good ol' aggressive-aggressiveness.
7. Gas Price Jacking
News Flash! The pricing is not related to shortages its greedy oil companies. When will it stop?
8. Seeing the Economy Tank and the High Unemployment Rate
Hopefully 2011 will be a better year for the economy and put more people back to work
9. The Loss of Too Many Relatives and Friends
I am a realist and accept that with getting older more friends and family will move on to a better place. I hope that everyone stay healthy and safe for 2011.
10. Ineffective Government
Okay the Republicans had a good election. Will it Matter? No. Until the politicians can check their egos and personal agendas at the door and do what is best for ALL AMERICAN’s we are doomed. There is too much protection for the Insurance, Utility, Oil and a handful of other corporations. Let’s get back to basics and work together in 2011. I know good luck on that happening.
Please feel free to post your thoughts and may 2011 be good for you.

Cell Phone Use While Driving ...Guilty As Charged
Suicides....still a mystery
Let me start by saying that suicides are not any higher during the holiday season as I once thought.
Today I received news that an old friend took his life. The first thought is Why? Then my thoughts were about his family and how they will cope with this loss. We met 20 years ago at a local park after we arrived in the community. He and BH both attended Ohio State and our kids were same age. We coached sports teams together and were both involved in local government and School Boards. He will be missed! Prayers and thoughts to the family.
Looking back over this past year I am noticing a lot of lives were lost from suicides. They range from local Mayor's, relative, actors, friends and neighbors. The horrible ones were the ones innocent lives were taken too. This was found on while surfing the Net and found it helpful.
In our culture, suicide is particularly difficult for friends and family. Police are involved. An autopsy is required by law. In some cases, family and friends are suspected of foul play. Survivors often feel incredibly guilty that they didn’t do enough to prevent the tragedy. Here are some things you can do to offer support to friends and family when a suicide occurs.

Suicide — Doing and Saying Just the Right Things
When A Person Takes His or Her Own LifeIn our culture, suicide is particularly difficult for friends and family. Police are involved. An autopsy is required by law. In some cases, family and friends are suspected of foul play. Survivors often feel incredibly guilty that they didn’t do enough to prevent the tragedy. Here are some things you can do to offer support to friends and family when a suicide occurs.
When you learn that a person has taken his or her own life…
- Don’t push for details. Let survivors talk about their loved one. Focus on the survivor’s needs and be a good listener.
- Refer to the deceased by name.
- If there was a note, ask the police for a copy. Survivors need this to help heal.
- Make sure the deceased’s personal effects are returned to the family after the autopsy.
- Encourage the family to plan a wake, funeral and burial (even if cremated), if you are in an appropriate position to do so. A suicide doesn’t mean friends and family aren’t grieving.
- Send flowers with a note (see suggestions for notes below) or offer a donation to an organization.
- Help survivors deal with returning to the place of the suicide.
- Focus on the deceased’s life — not his/her death.
- Ask to help make arrangements or do chores.
- Include siblings of all ages in the activities. Let them ask questions. Answer honestly.
- Don’t feel guilty about saying or doing something that causes a loved one to cry or crying yourself. Crying is healthy.
- Remember birthdays and anniversaries of the death.
- Keep in touch with the bereaved. Many times friends and family shy away from the awkwardness suicide poses. Be there for them when they are ready.
- Those close to the deceased, especially children and those who discover the body, need special attention. It’s wise to help them find appropriate therapy or a support group.
- Don’t suggest what you would do or how you would feel. You are not the issue.
- Don’t shy away from being involved. Your support is valued, but don’t take control of the situation. Loved ones need control to help them work through grief.
- Don’t bring up other people’s losses. Let friends and family focus on their loss.
- Don’t pressure the family to clean out the deceased’s belongings. They need to do this in their own time.
Use your own words to convey messages like these:Don’t say…
"It’s too bad he/she died. I will always remember him/her."
"It’s so tragic. What you’re going through must be very difficult."
"I’m saddened by your loss. We care and love you deeply."
"Didn’t you notice something was wrong?"
"How did he/she do it?"
"He/She was always a little emotional."
"Didn’t his/her mother commit suicide too?"
"God won’t give you more than you can handle."

Time to Reflect. Let Us Forgive and Kindhearted in 2011
Christmas comes once a year. The true gifts come from deep in our hearts that are filled with LOVE. Our heart beat is year round, so why not give others the gift of LOVE and KINDNESS year round not just at Christmas. Wishing You a Safe and Happy Holidays to All.
Christmas Dinner At Mom's
Every Christmas Eve my family and I go to my Mom's house and have dinner with my brother's and sister and their families. I always look forward to these family gathering and togetherness. That is what the holiday season is about. FAMILY and passing the love to each other. Each year we try and invite guest to our dinner that otherwise would be home alone. This year my one brother invited two friends to join us and another brought his friend too. The main course was prepared by one brother and the rest of us brought side dishes and or desserts. We all had a great time and great meal.

Variety of Santa's
Creepy Santa's
Nasty Santa's
The Real Santa Claus
According to the British Medical Journal in their annual Christmas issue, Santa Claus is a bad role model. Not only is he obese but his reckless speeding has been well documented, travelling the world in a single night. He’s also been suspected of drink-driving due to the alcohol consumed at many of the households he visits with empty beer bottles left as damning evidence.
He has also been known to endorse Coca Cola, cigarettes and may other unhealthy products. But it hasn’t always been this way, modern life hasn’t been kind to Santa Claus ( or Father Christmas, Saint Nicholas, Kris Kringle as he’s also known).

Do you re gift? Yes at times as in Chinese gift or white elephant exchanges

"Man Cave" Quick Lube Center Open for Business
CF Neighbor called yesterday asking if he could you my lift for his 2009 Charger SRT "Super Bee". I ask "What do you need to do? He replied "I have to take an oil sample and send it off". Well okay I thought. Apparently he gets oil made specifically for his car that last 15,000 miles and he sends samples in every 5,000 miles. This oil cost about three times as much as the off the shelf high grade oil so don't really see any savings. Oh well I just pulled my "Ole Car" off and let him do his sample. Now "High Tech" neighbor has called to change his oil too since my " Man Cave" garage is also heated too and its getting cold out these days. Guess I will just be neighborly this week.
"The Fighter" movie review
Took in "The Fighter" this afternoon and found the movie very entertaining and even saw similarities to "Rocky" movies in the script. The movie is based on a true story of two boxing brothers, one Dicky Eklund (played by Christian Bale) a washed up ex fighter and now a crack head and the other Micky Ward (Mark Wahlberg) an upcoming boxer looking for his break to a title. For those that follow boxing Dicky Eklund's claim to fame is knocking down Sugar Ray Leonard for the first time during his prime. Sugar Ray even makes a quick cameo during movie. As stated it has that Rocky feel to as in underdog who you know is going to get his title while getting beat to a pulp. Overall Mark Walhberg gives a very good performance but personally I thought Christian Bale stole the scenes. Their mother Alice Ward (Melissa Leo) was also very good in her role. The movie is set in Lowell, Massachusetts and directed by David Russell. Overall Rating: .

"gogo gumbo!" Lives up to Reviews
Have always heard compliments from the locals about how good gogo gumbo! is in Boyd, TX. Heck even the local NBC news affiliate Channel 5 paid them a visit and did a segment giving them rave reviews. Well I finally made it out there tonight and had the "TV Dinner" that consist of 4 samplers: crab cake w/slaw, salad, shrimp w/grits, and I went with the seafood and crab gumbo. All were excellent and the service was the best. The decor is similar to the much talked about "Babes". Very down to earth and clean. I received another bonus while there from their small book library area that contains mostly culinary reads.

O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree How Careful We Must Be.
Christmas trees and their decorations can create hazards for pets (especially cats).
This year we have three new additions in the house which are driving me CRAZY . The tree is still in the attic for a few more days to minimize any damage. In the past 6 months we've cat proofed the house by removing pictures and decorations from all tables, book shelves and relocated all the potted plants, Had the kittens declawed to save the furniture and drapes but they continue to be little terrors. They are now starting to calm down some but I am not fooled to put the tree up just yet.
Holiday Heatburn
With the holidays come parties, drinking, plenty of food and in some case heartburn.
How to avoid holiday heartburn
Trigger Foods
If you have regular bouts of heartburn, it's important to talk about your symptoms and eating habits with a healthcare provider. Common reflux "trigger" foods include:
-- Tomato-based foods, such as spaghetti sauce, salsa, chili, and pizza
-- Citrus fruits
-- Chocolate
-- Drinks with caffeine or alcohol
-- Fatty and fried foods
-- Garlic and onions
-- Mint flavorings
-- Spicy foods

Aquarium Melt Down
First of all I should have known better than to listen to Petco staff since my setup has been functioning just fine for the past 12 years. I have a 20 gallon tank, whisper filtration, under gravel filters and usual heater and gravel configuration. Figured it could use a cleaning and new filter since it was 12 years old. Went to store and ended up buying a new Penguin filter and talked in to removing my under gravel filters while cleaning. I have cleaned my tank many times in the past 12 years and added fish a few times with no issues. The fish I HAD were doing fines and the Hypostomus plecostomus (sucker fish) was there from day one. All have died now after daily water analysis by test strips and visits to the pet store. Now I am going back to original setup on filters but will probably leave under gravel filter out. It was sad to watch them die and I hope the tanks gets balanced soon.
Busy Tuesday
Good way to start any day! With a massage. Started off day with and 1 1/2 massage to loosen some sore muscles from my weekly workouts.
Headed to Office Depot next to by another memory disk for the one I left at Walmart last night while getting Christmas pictures printed. Blah! Trip back home via Walmart to pick up prints and back to home office for an exciting Webinar presentation on insurance companies policy changes. Cannot complain much about sitting at home and still be able to do work while someone is putting on a presentation. Better than driving to a meeting place and sitting there for two hours for same material.
Tonight is my monthly meeting to play Politics so that should be fun too.

Attention: Texans with College Kids. Did You Know This?
If you have paid college tuition in the past three years a portion of it has gone to the support financial aide per Texas Education Codes 56.011 and 56.011. The kicker is that this bill was passed a few years back and just recently the legislators voted to require that a a letter be sent to notify you that part of your tuition was going places other than tuition for your college classes. I have contacted Senator Nelson and Representative Tan Parker who both stated they have been getting several calls on this issue.
In accordance with provisions of the Texas Education Code, Section 56.014, each semester UTSA will provide an e-mail to every student that has paid designated tuition. The notice will indicate the amount of their tuition that is required to be set aside and used for need-based financial aid to UTSA students. No action is necessary by the recipient as the email is for information purposes only.
The below chart illustrates how the financial aid set-aside is calculated:
Resident Student | Non-Resident Student | |
Undergraduate | 20% of Designated Tuition (G001) that exceeds $46 p/SCH Education Code Sections 56.011 & 56.465 | N/A |
Graduate | 15% of Designated Tuition (G001) that exceeds $46 per SCH. Education Code Section 56.012 | N/A |
Doctoral | 15% of Designated Tuition (G001) that exceeds $46 per SCH, PLUS $2 per SCH Education Code Sections 56.012 & 56.095 | $2 per SCH Education Code Section 56.095 |

"View's Joy Behar, Narnia Numbskull"
Last week I happened to skim across the "View" and caught Barbara hyping her upcoming specials. The Sarah Palin incident with Katie Couric came up regarding books that Sarah was reading. Barbara ask the same question during her interview and Sarah responded that she reads C.S. Lewis for "divine inspiration," . Joy being a Palin hater tried to paint another dumb and silly picture of Sarah Palin only to bring out her stupidity once again every time her mouth opens. Still don't understand that show and the panel they have. I do respect the feisty Elisabeth Hasselbeck though.

Shop and Party Attending Weekend
Yesterday was spent at Kohl's, Target, Belks, Staples, Hobby Lobby, Petco and an assorted other retail shops throughout the day. Hate the shopping and traffic beat down but going on weekdays sure beats the hell out of weekend shopping. Don't understand the multiple discounts offered by all the stores and the flyers that appear daily for online and retail stores, Noticed this year my email has been bombarded by them too. Been busy with the unsubscribe feature but no help yet. There are 15%, 20%, 30% and up advertised and then some additional ones if you have a Kohl's card or whatever. Damn you have to be a mathematician when you get to checkout to figure if you are getting charged correctly. Then you have to read the fine print for all the exclusions as in Best Buy ads. How about getting back to simplicity and charge the lowest price possible while still making an acceptable profit and let everyone take advantage of this set price. Just a thought! After a day of shopping I was asked by a friend to assist in a above range microwave install. Luckily I was able to use existing mount and only needed to drill a few new holes on the cabinet to accommodate new unit.
Today it running around to birthday and Christmas parties till late in the night. Started at 12 with Ranch Party which consist of big lunch and gift exchange where you choose numbers pick a gift and someone can steal it twice then its frozen, Been doing it the past 10 years and recently small kids were allowed to participate. The only problem with this in the past two years the small kids get a present and are happy until someone steals it from them. Last year I actually stole one from a person to freeze it and gave it back to the little girl who was crushed that she lost the present on the first steal. Everyone know the rules but kids did not handle it well. This year all went well and I ended up with a nice horse print pillow and tapestry chair cover.
After that ended it was off to a friends daughter first birthday. I hope that kid starts walking soon because she is a little butterball. Tonight its down to South Fort Worth for another Christmas party that we have been attending for 17 years. Always enjoy the people there so good times ahead.
Sunday my brother will be the "Big 50" and the family will be having a get together at my Mom's. He does not expect it so it should be fun. He's had a rough past few years with his wife having bi-polar issues and raising two girls. He deserves to relax and enjoy himself on his birthday.

Quotes to Absorb
It's hard to accept, but you can't change the past. You can't go back and manipulate things to the way you wanted them to happen. Because life'd be meaningless and boring and just not worth living. But you can change the future and that's a beautiful thing about life. Yes, you will make mistakes. And yes, you will have bad days - but as long as you let the past go, you'll have such a gorgeous and bright future ahead of you. Knowing that things were meant to happen. Knowing that each day you will learn something so that you keep growing to be a better person. Life is like a rope, twined in all its complexities and yet weaved into one marvelous stream that you have the chance you use something amazing from. So grab hold of it.

Paul McCartney and Jimmy Fallon "Scrambled Eggs"
Love the Beatles! Happened to stumble on to Sir Paul McCartney who was appearing on Jimmy Fallon's show last night and it was greatness when they performed "Scrambled Eggs" to the music of "Yesterday". The original title of yesterday when written was actually called "Scrambled Eggs". The original writing did not go like the one performed with lyrics like this ......."Scrambled eggs, oh my baby how I love your legs/but not as much as I love scrambled eggs/oh we should eat some scrambled eggs/waffle fries/oh my darling how I love your thighs/not as much as I love waffle fries/oh have you tried the waffle fries."

Cat and Owner Reunited Again After Five Years
You probably have read or heard stories of lost pets being returned to their owners because they had indentifying chips implanted in the pets. Well, here is another one that after five years the pet is returned home. Wonder how long off it is that babies will have a chip installed at birth? Will it help child abduction or runaways? Will it invade are personal privacy rights? Many unanswered question exist on this subject as it pertains to humans but appears to work for lost pets.
With Cold Weather Here Time to Move Workouts Indoor
Have moved my exercising regimen indoors for the most part during these colder months. On warmer days I still get the long outdoor walks in though. Lately its been "24 Hour Fitness" and "Man Cave" for treadmill and P90X workouts. Read this article this morning and my question of why the women are always on AB machines and loving it has been answered
"10 Bizarre Side Effects of Exercise"
Coregasm
Here’s some extra motivation to exercise: A number of women report having an orgasm—or “coregasm”—while working out. But not just any fitness routine can trigger the big-O. As the name suggests, coregasms most commonly happen during an intense core workout, which may explain the wait for the Ab Roller at the gym.
While any moderate physical activity can trigger the release of feel-good endorphins and increase your blood circulation, core workouts, in particular, target the same muscles that contract during orgasm. “When you’re doing Pilates or Kegel exercises, you’re working your PC and pelvic floor muscles,” says Sara Nasserzadeh, PhD, co-author of The Orgasm Answer Guide. “It’s probable that feel-good feeling you get from contracting your muscles during core exercises can mimic those generated during genital-stimulated orgasms.”

The Simple Things One Ask from Life
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy.’ They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life.~ John Lennon

"Dandy Don" Meredith former Dallas Cowboy QB, Hall of Famer and one of the original Monday Night Football broadcasters has passed from a brain hemorrhage and lapsing into a coma at a hospital in Sante Fe. Monday Night Football has never been the same and he will be missed.
Motorola Droid Phone Explosion. Real or Made Up??
First off the clip states he was rushed to the hospital which is false. He actually drove to his wife's place of employment, a school where she teaches prior to going to the hospital. If I was bleeding I would be driving to a clinic or hospital first. Second point is Motorola checked phone out and it was stick functional and battery was not damaged. The case where cell phones have exploded are all from battery explosions. My gut tells me this is bullsh*t. We shall see. Appears he was talking on the phone and accidentally ran in to something such as a street sign which would be about ear level and his phone and side of face were damaged. Just a guess!
